Nuclear shapes and sizes explored using laser spectroscopy

Lead Research Organisation: University of Liverpool
Department Name: Physics

Abstract

This project aims to help take experimental data and analyse data taken using collinear laser spectroscopy techniques at ISOLDE, CERN to extract nuclear properties of various stable and radioactive Thulium isotopes ranging from 155Tm to 177Tm and potentially further. The nuclear properties that will be extracted will be the magnetic dipole moment and the electric quadrupole moment. The change in mean square charge radius with respect to the stable 169Tm will also be extracted. The data will be analysed using numerous Python programs, each of them adapted to suit the needs of this project.
