High Performance Resistive Switching Devices for Sustainable Artificial Intelligence

Lead Research Organisation: University of Cambridge
Department Name: Materials Science & Metallurgy

Abstract

The PhD project will carry on from the Midi project and aim to achieve a fully industry-compatible materials system based on the initial demonstrations. This will comprise an interfacial fast switching layer, possibly epitaxial, and an amorphous overcoat layer to provide state retention. There are different potential materials systems which can be used, among them yttria-stabilised zirconia, hafnia, or silica. During the project, the deposition technique may change from pulsed laser deposition to sputtering, a standard industry process.
The student will be part of a strong team working on emerging memory materials and learn standard characterisation and deposition techniques, which will provide them with a strong background to follow a career in academia or in industry in a very hot topic.
