Abstract

My research will be aimed at exploring how the experience and lessons learned from the UK justice £1.5bn reform programme can relate to reform programmes happening in Argentina and Brazil particularly in relation to the experience
of digital justice. It will explore the extent to which these reforms developed in the UK as part of a strategic plan, can -if applied in weak rule of law countries- dramatically improve access to justice and drive social change. Drawing upon the
seminal work of Prof. Alex Jeffrey and Dr. Linda Mucahy, this research will explore the societal impacts of digital justice and the evolution of court materiality. The research will also seek to explore how the innovations that were implemented
in the UK to improve an already well functioning system, can have a material societal impact in countries in which access to justice is restricted and where large parts of the population feel disenfranchisement and distrust of the justice system, such as Argentina and Brazil. The research will also look at some digital justice innovations that were developed in Argentina and Brazil as a response to the pandemic and compare this spontaneous/reactive approach with the UK's long term strategy. Lastly, the research will look and compare the experiences of users and the impact on public confidence in
the justice system.
