Pulsars and Fast Transients with the SKA

Lead Research Organisation: University of Manchester
Department Name: Physics and Astronomy

Abstract

The Square Kilometre Array will be the world's largest radio telescope and it is currently under construction. The key science goals of the SKA include the discovery of new pulsars and fast transients. Developing the software to enable this for the SKA telescopes is a challenging undertaking requiring ground breaking real time data processing. The aim of this project is to develop and implement algorithms to enable the maximum science return to be extracted from the SKA data. These algorithms and implementations will be tested on SKA precursor telescope data and used to undertake precursor science.
