Developing A Structural Biology Driven Approach To Biofilm Control And Management.

Lead Research Organisation: University of Southampton
Department Name: Sch of Biological Sciences

Abstract

Biofilms are controlled by the intracellular concentration of the secondary messenger c-di-GMP. Two linked PhDs address the role of multi-domain proteins as toggle switches in the management and control of biofilms. This PhD develops a novel structural biology approach to studying ligand controlled regulatory multi-domain proteins in biofilm dispersal. Together with the linked PhD that develop specific methods to influence multi-domain proteins known to control motility and dispersal. The two linked PhDs engage to integrate across discovery, dynamic molecular systems, and validation of targets.
