Edgetect Improved Edge Protection Technology
Lead Participant:
VALSPAR POWDER COATINGS LIMITED
Abstract
Corrosion of painted steel vehicles is a long standing issue facing the agricultural and construction equipment
industry. Corrosion on coated parts often initiates at edges and has a significant economic impact.
This project seeks to address this issue by understanding the interaction of the substrate and the coating at
edges and how this influences the corrosion protective properties of the coating. A feasibility study on in line
NDT techniques to detect the level of edge protection early in the value stream is within the project scope. This
is an enabling project to facilitate the development of robust coating solutions to resolve this issue.
